Odessa is bigger than it looks on a map
Ask two neighbors where Odessa starts and ends, and you may get two answers. The Odessa census area lies entirely in Pasco County. But the Odessa mailing ZIP, 33556, reaches much farther, and most of it sits in Hillsborough County. Many people with an Odessa address live south of the county line.
That matters when you call for help. We serve the whole 33556 area, not just the small census area. You don't need to know which county you're in. Just tell us your street, and we'll handle the rest.
Areas we cover in Odessa
We come out to homes along SR 54, the main road through Odessa. We also cover the newer homes in Starkey Ranch (off SR 54), near the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Preserve. Heading south, we work along Gunn Highway (CR 587) toward Citrus Park. The Suncoast Parkway meets SR 54 at exit 19, which makes it easy to reach homes on both sides of the parkway.
We also serve Keystone. It is its own community in Hillsborough County, and it shares the 33556 and 33558 ZIP codes with Odessa and Lutz. Keystone is known as a rural retreat of lake homes and ranches. Trinity, just to the west, is in our area too.
A little Odessa history
Odessa got its name in the 1880s from Peter Demens, who built the Orange Belt Railway and also founded St. Petersburg. The town once had a sawmill, which burned in 1922. For years, the area also had a small airport, Tampa Bay Executive, until 2004. Today it is a mix of quiet ranch land, lakes and new neighborhoods.
What Odessa homes ask of their appliances
Odessa living is a little different, and so are the repair calls.
- Lake homes and humidity. Homes near water can have damp air. Whirlpool notes that humid air builds up moisture in fridges, mainly when the doors open a lot. Worn door seals make it worse.
- Garages in the heat. If your fridge or freezer, or your washer and dryer, is in the garage, it works much harder in a Florida summer.
- Private wells. If your home is on a private well, the Florida Department of Health says to test the water at least once a year. Sediment from a well can clog the small screens and valves in washers, dishwashers and ice makers.
- Storm season. Hurricanes bring outages and power surges. UF/IFAS suggests surge protectors, or simply unplugging things you don't need. Control boards in newer appliances are sensitive to surges.
- Newer appliances. Many newer models have electronic controls and error codes. We read those codes and track down the real cause.
