What goes on inside a washer
Every washer does four jobs: fill, wash, drain and spin. A water valve lets water in. A motor turns the drum or agitator. A pump pushes dirty water out. A lid or door lock keeps the machine shut while it moves.
Sensors and a control board run the whole show. When one part fails, the washer often stops mid-cycle or shows an error code.
Problems we see most
- Will not drain. A clogged pump filter, a kinked drain hose, a sock stuck in the pump, or a worn pump motor.
- Will not fill or fills slowly. Water valves turned off, clogged inlet screens, or a failing water inlet valve.
- Will not spin or shakes hard. An off-balance load, worn shocks or suspension springs, or a lid lock that will not engage.
- Leaking. A torn door boot (the rubber ring on front-loaders), a loose hose, or a cracked pump.
- Door or lid will not lock or unlock. A failed lock switch or something blocking the latch.
Check these first
Unplug the washer before you touch anything inside it.
- Make sure both water valves behind the washer are fully open.
- Look at the drain hose. Straighten any kinks. Whirlpool notes that a hose pushed too far into the standpipe can cause drain trouble.
- On front-loaders, check the small pump filter near the bottom front, if your model has one. Have towels ready.
- Spread out the load and try again. One heavy blanket can throw the drum off balance.
- Write down any error code. It helps us bring the right parts.
What we do when we arrive
We tell you the visit price on the phone before we come. Then we run the washer, read any codes and test the parts linked to the problem, such as the pump, valve, lock or motor.
You get a clear upfront quote. Nothing gets fixed until you approve it. Our repairs come with a warranty.
Fix it or buy new?
Most washer repairs are worth doing. Pumps, valves, lid locks, door boots, belts and shocks are common parts. Fixing them often brings a washer back to normal for a fair cost.
A new washer may be the better call when the outer tub is cracked, the main bearing has failed on an older front-loader, or rust has spread across the cabinet. We walk you through the choice and leave it to you.
Florida homes and washers
Humid air means front-loaders need extra care here. Leaving the door cracked after a wash lets the drum and seal dry out. That helps cut down on musty smells.
Much of the area's water comes from the Floridan Aquifer. Over time, minerals can leave scale on parts that touch water. Homes on private wells can also send sand or sediment into the inlet screens, which can slow filling. Florida health officials advise testing private well water at least once a year.
After a summer storm knocks the power out, a washer may stop mid-cycle and hold water. Usually a fresh start once power is steady clears it. If it won't, we can help.
