Signs your GE appliance needs a repair

Some signs are easy to spot. The fridge is not cold enough. The oven takes forever to preheat, or one burner won't light.

The dishwasher leaves a puddle on the floor. The dryer drum turns, but there is no heat. The disposal hums but doesn't spin.

Other signs are quieter. A new noise, a smell, or a cycle that takes much longer than before can all mean a part is wearing out. Catching it early often keeps a small problem small.

Instead, tell us the code shown on your display when you book. Write it down exactly as you see it, including letters and numbers. That helps us plan the visit.

Easy checks before you call

Please put safety first. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before you check anything. Then try these:

Make sure the breaker has not tripped.
For a fridge, check that the door closes fully and the vents inside are not blocked by food.
For a dryer, clean the lint screen.
For a dishwasher, make sure the water valve under the sink is open.
For a disposal, turn it off at the switch and never put your hand inside.

If you smell gas near a GE gas range, don't use switches or the range. Leave the home and call the gas company or 911 from outside.

Hurricane season and your GE fridge

Storms here can knock out power. The USDA says a fridge keeps food cold for about 4 hours if you keep the door closed. A full freezer holds about 2 days, a half-full one about 1 day.

Keep a thermometer in the fridge and freezer. The fridge should stay at 40 °F or lower, and the freezer at 0 °F or lower. If your GE fridge doesn't cool right after the power comes back, call us.

Find the model and serial number label. On GE fridges, look inside on a side wall or the ceiling. On ranges, check behind the drawer or on the frame by the door. On dishwashers, look along the door edge. A photo is great.
