How KitchenAid dishwashers show codes
KitchenAid dishwashers often show a problem by flashing a light. KitchenAid's help page explains how to read it. The light flashes a number of times for the F number, pauses, then flashes again for the E number. So 9 flashes, then 1 flash, means F9E1.
Here are the codes KitchenAid lists, in plain words:
- F9E1 – a long drain; water is taking too long to leave the tub
- F8E4 – water is in the drip tray under the tub, which points to a leak
- F7E2 – a problem with the wash motor (the motor that pushes water through the spray arms)
- F6E1 – a problem between the control panel and the main control board
- H20 – the dishwasher is not detecting water
Count the flashes a couple of times to be sure. Then tell us what you counted when you book.
Other common KitchenAid issues
- The fridge is warm, or the freezer frosts up.
- Ice stops coming out of the door.
- The oven won't heat evenly or won't hold its temperature.
- A cooktop burner won't light or won't warm up.
In our humid climate, a fridge door that is opened a lot lets in damp air. That can lead to frost or water inside.
Safe first steps
Turn off the breaker before you check anything. For a dishwasher, make sure the water valve under the sink is open, then clean the filter in the bottom of the tub. Look under the sink for a kinked drain hose. For a fridge, check that the door shuts fully.
If you have a gas range or cooktop and smell gas, don't use switches or the appliance. Leave the home and call the gas company or 911 from outside.
What to have ready
Find the model and serial label. On KitchenAid dishwashers, check the edge of the door or the tub. On fridges, look inside on a side wall or ceiling. On wall ovens and ranges, look around the door frame. A photo is the easiest way to share it.
