Washer down? You're in our backyard
Laundry piles up fast with Florida sweat, beach towels and pool days. When the washer quits, we know it's a real problem. King Appliance Repair is based in Land O' Lakes, so homes off US 41 and SR 54 are some of the closest calls we take. We offer same-day service when a slot is open.
What tends to go wrong
Most washer calls fall into a few groups:
- Won't drain. A clogged pump filter, a kinked hose or a failed drain pump.
- Won't spin or shakes hard. An unbalanced load, worn shocks, a broken belt or a bad lid or door lock.
- Won't fill or fills slowly. Clogged inlet screens or a failed water valve.
- Leaks. Torn door boot (the rubber ring on a front loader), loose hoses or a cracked tub part.
- Smells. Front loaders hold moisture, and our humid air doesn't help them dry out.
Our water and your washer
Much of the water in this region comes from the Floridan Aquifer. Mineral scale can build up inside the inlet valve and on heating parts over the years. If your home runs on a private well instead, the notes below apply to you. Well sediment can clog the small screens where the hoses connect, which makes a washer fill slowly or not at all.
The Florida Department of Health says well owners should test their water at least once a year. That's good for your family, and it helps your appliances too.
Error codes we see on local washers
Many newer machines show a code instead of just stopping. A few common ones, from the makers' own help pages:
- Samsung 4C or nF: water is not entering the washer correctly.
- Samsung 5C or nd: water is not draining.
- LG OE: the washer is unable to drain. LG IE: it does not fill to the right level in time.
- Whirlpool F21 (front load): a drain problem, often a kinked or clogged hose.
- Maytag F5E2 (top load): the lid lock can't engage, possibly from something in the way.
A code points us in the right direction. It doesn't always name the broken part, so we test before we quote.
What you can check safely
Unplug the washer or switch off its breaker first. Then:
- Confirm the hot and cold water valves behind it are fully open.
- Look for kinks in the drain hose, especially if the washer was moved.
- Make sure the lid or door is fully closed and nothing is caught in it.
- Spread out a heavy load, like a soaked comforter, and try a spin again.
Please don't take apart the pump or the control panel. Call us instead.
Fix or replace?
Drain pumps, lid locks, belts, valves and door boots are usually worth repairing. A cracked outer tub or a failed main bearing on an older machine may cost more than it's worth. We'll tell you straight and give you an upfront quote, and you decide.
