If you smell gas, don't use switches or the oven. Leave the home and call the gas company or 911 from outside. For smoke or a burning smell, turn it off and switch off the breaker.
Oven trouble in a Lutz kitchen
An oven that will not heat can upend dinner plans fast. We repair ovens and ranges across Lutz, in older homes with simple freestanding ranges and in newer homes with wall ovens and pro-style ranges. We test the parts, explain what failed, and give you a price to approve first.
What usually goes wrong
- No heat at all, or only the broiler works.
- Uneven baking, with burnt edges and raw centers.
- A gas oven that clicks or glows but does not light.
- The door stays locked after a self-clean cycle.
- A blank or flashing display, or buttons that do not respond.
Wall ovens and pro-style ranges
If your kitchen has a built-in unit, such as a double wall oven or a large dual-fuel range, we can repair it. Dual-fuel means gas burners on top with an electric oven below. These are built to last and are almost always worth repairing. We work on Wolf, Viking, KitchenAid, GE, Bosch and other brands. Wall ovens are set into the cabinets, so we take care pulling them out and setting them back in.
Simpler freestanding ranges
If you have a plain freestanding electric or gas range, it is easier to service, and parts are often easy to find. A bake element that burned out, or a gas igniter that has grown weak, are common fixes.
A weak igniter is a good example. In a gas oven, the igniter has to get hot enough to open the gas valve. As it ages, it heats slowly, so the oven takes a long time to light, or never does. Replacing it is a routine repair.
Gas safety comes first
If you have a gas range and smell gas, do not turn on lights, switches or burners. Leave the home and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Do not try to fix a gas valve or line yourself. If you see smoke or smell burning from an electric oven, turn it off and switch off the breaker, then call us.
Storms, surges and electronic controls
Modern ovens rely on a control board, a small computer that runs the heat and the display. Summer storms bring outages and power surges, which can upset these boards. Extension experts at UF/IFAS point to surge protection as one way to guard home electronics. Many ranges are hard-wired or hard to reach, so switching off the breaker during a bad storm is another choice.
Safe things to check first
- Make sure the breaker is on. Electric ranges often use a double breaker.
- Check that the oven is not in a lock mode or a timed-bake setting.
- For gas models, check that the gas supply valve behind the range is open.
Is a repair worth it?
Elements, igniters, sensors and door locks are usually worth fixing. High-end ranges and wall ovens almost always are. If an older, low-cost range needs a new control board and other parts, replacing it may make more sense. We give you the facts so you can decide.
